What kind of dog?

I’m not going to get another dog anytime soon. But, as soon as Josh and I get a house, I want to get another furry pal to train and play with. My dilemma is that I can’t decide what kind I want. There are so many breeds I want to own sometime before I die…and the animals live so darn long. These are the ones I’d like to own in my lifetime:
Bichon Frise
Boxer
Old English Bulldog
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
Great Dane
Italian Greyhound
Komondor
Tibetan Terrier
Welsh Terrier
Wire Fox Terrier
Yes, it’s a lot. But I’m a dog fan. The question is this…which one is next?

  1. Komondor! Then I could name it “64.” He he he…
If the dog’s life-span is too long, it’s not hard to fix that. Leave a big bag of Hershey’s chocolate lying around. Live near a very busy street.
On second thought, maybe I’m not ready for another dog.

  2. Calm down! Notice I used phrases like “own sometime before I die,” and “as soon as Josh and I get a house.” As far as I can tell, neither of these things is going to happen anytime soon. You know me, always dreaming of what I can do next….

  3. I really like to see you guys with a Great Dane! I’d love to come over and play with it!!! I like the dog with the dreds though!

  4. I wouldn’t feel right if I read this and didn’t suggest a breed you missed: Pug. I’ve had mine for 9 years, and I’m still amazed at the intelligence he displays. (Example: I taught him the trick “gimme five,” which is essentially shake, but with the other paw. Not surprisingly, he was able to adapt this to “high five” when I held my hand a little higher. Then, while I was just messing with him a little, I put both hands up and said, “High ten.” He looked at me for a couple of seconds, then jumped up and hit both of my hands, one with each paw. First time he’d ever seen that gesture and heard that request!)
Pugs would also be good protection for those times when Josh isn’t around.
If I had to suggest one on your list, I’d go for the Bulldog. Mostly because of its resemblance to the Pug, but also because they were bred to fight bears. That’s just sweet.

  5. Any particular reason you chose those breeds? I noticed you don’t really have any of the common breeds like a black lab or a golden retriever. I think you should get something like that. There is a weimaraner in Speak’s puppy class that I am starting to really like. I think that would be a fun dog to have. I used to think they were sort of odd looking but now they are starting to grow on me.
What about a mixed breed? I’ve heard peekapoo’s are pretty cute….

  6. Ha, ha. A Great Dane with Henson would be like when the Snow Speeder took out the AT-AT in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.

  7. Hehe. Snowspeeders. Oh, my picks would probably be for the Cavalier KC Spaniel or the Great Dane. The rest of the dogs don’t look cool to me.
