This is a new (and living!) artist that I’ve been digging lately. I first saw her painting Gaze on a greeting card at a local bookshop (pictured here, Oil on Canvas, 24″ X 36″, 2003). I stopped and was drawn in by the interesting way she cropped the picture and her delicate values.
Then, I checked her out on the web and saw that she has quite a broad body of work. She has some wicked looking children and some interesting portraits and still lifes.
It’s refreshing to see someone alive and real who makes work that you really respond to. She seems to have this understanding of the human psyche that really comes through her brush. I also love her simplified colors and wicked-cool shapes in the more abstract stuff.
Anyway, check her out!
